Marsh Migration Task Force to hold public forum

12/15/2013

A salt marsh lives in delicate balance with the daily rise and fall of ocean tides.  What happens to a salt marsh and its environs when the sea level rises and floods marshlands on a daily basis that once were flooded only by the occasional heavy storm tide?  This is a question that residents of Scarborough will have to answer in the not-too-distant future.  Fortunately, Scarborough Marsh is the beneficiary of a federal grant to research this question through the creation of a Marsh Migration Task Force.
Coordinated by the Scarborough Town Planning Department and the Scarborough Conservation Commission, the Marsh Migration Task Force has been collecting data for several months and now seeks a public discussion of its findings.

You are invited to a meeting on Monday, Dec. 16, at 7pm, in Council Chamber A, Scarborough Town Hall.  The Commission will present an in-depth review of the information gathered to date and will be discussing potential next steps.  The Commission is hopeful that the meeting will provide a forum for the groups to begin thinking about how the information may be utilized.
